ABOUT US

I am 48 and live in the UK with my partner Steve, my two sons and our two dogs.

Until about 5 years ago I worked full time but I now care for my eldest son who has DAMP Syndrome which is, in part, what this site is about.  When my son was diagnosed with this I hadn’t got a clue what it was and to be honest, there is very little information out there about it.  My son was diagnosed only a couple of years ago and although there is a bit more information now than there was then, there is still very little.  The idea of this blog is twofold really.

My son was initially diagnosed with ADHD when he was 5 years old although he was with the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry team from the age of 2.  He is 19 this month and over the last 19 years I have gained a wealth of experience and understanding.  I have battled with doctors, Ed Psychs, Teachers and so on and so on.

I would like to be able to pass on this knowledge in the hope that it will help someone in a similar situation, be able to support other Mums and Dads, Aunties or Uncles etc and also learn from other people who have had or are having similar experiences.

The second reason I decided to create this web site is to give me an outlet.  Even though I am not alone (far from it) it sometimes feels like I am.  I know my son extremely well as does my partner and my other son but I do tend to try and do things on my own.  I have good days and bad, like everyone else but I am not inclined to go to the top of a hill and scream ,to vent my frustration about whatever todays crisis is! So for me, getting everything down on paper helps and creates an outlet, keeps my sanity and stops everyone around me getting it in the neck!!!

I hope you enjoy reading the articles on my website and my associated blog but more than anything, I hope it helps.   If you have any questions, you can email or comment me and I will get back to you.
